The wait is finally over. Tesla has officially launched the highly anticipated Tesla Model Y in India, priced at ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). This marks a significant milestone in the Indian EV space, as Tesla enters the market with one of its most popular electric SUVs globally.
The launch was confirmed through Tesla India’s official channels, and bookings have now been opened across select cities. While deliveries are expected to begin later this year, the announcement alone has already stirred excitement among EV enthusiasts and early adopters in India.
The Tesla Model Y is globally known for its futuristic design, high safety standards, and impressive range. It features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, a top speed of over 217 km/h, and an estimated WLTP range of up to 533 km on a single charge. This makes it not just a luxury EV but also a practical choice for long-distance travel.
Interior-wise, the car boasts a minimalist design with a 15-inch central touchscreen, premium vegan leather seats, a panoramic glass roof, and over-the-air software updates that improve performance and features over time. It also comes with Tesla’s Autopilot suite, though the full self-driving package availability for India is yet to be confirmed.
With the Tesla Model Y India launch, the competition in the premium electric SUV segment has intensified. It will rival the likes of BMW iX1, Kia EV6, and the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 AWD variant. However, Tesla’s brand reputation, software ecosystem, and charging infrastructure could set it apart.
Initial bookings are being accepted online, and select Tesla Experience Zones may soon be operational in metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
